Gamescom Opening Night Live: the biggest announcements
Geoff Keighley, the host, brought a lot of news, trailers and updates to Gamescom 2021’s Opening Night Live kickoff event in a two-hour Livestream. It was a lot of information, and you can catch up in Polygon’s StoryStream. But if you want to see the highlights, these are the best.
Saints RowReboot of’s
A new Saints Row is now available — it’s called Saints Row. In a Gamescom 2021 debut trailer, Volition showcased the new look and felt for Saints Row. The new Saints Row will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Xbox One. It is also available via the Epic Games Store.

Midnight Suns is a brand new projectMarvelStrategy game starting atXCOMCreators
Firaxis is creating a Marvel superheroes game inspired by (but not very different from) XCOM. Marvel’s Midnight Suns, designed by Jake Solomon (XCOM: Enemy Unknown, XCOM 2), features characters such as Iron Man, Captain America and Captain Marvel. It also includes Blade, Ghost Rider and Wolverine, in turn-based tactical combats. It will be available on consoles and computers in March 2022.

Halo InfiniteGets a release date (as well as a new controller/console)
Microsoft announced at Gamescom that Halo Infinite would be coming to Xbox and Windows PC starting Dec. 8, 2021. What’s more, Microsoft is releasing a very nice-looking Master Chef-inspired Xbox Elite Wireless Series 2 controller and a Halo 20th anniversary Xbox Series X console later this year. If you have the money, you can pre-order them right away.
Horizon Forbidden West delayed, Horizon Zero DawnUpdated.
Guerrilla Games announced another release date at Gamescom: Horizon Forbidden West will be available on PlayStation 4 and 5 February 2022. This is a bit later than originally planned. Guerrilla has released a new patch to Horizon Zero Dawn. This allows 60 frames per second gameplay on PS5.
Death StrandingDirector’s Cut contains a lot of new stuff
Are you looking for some “new fun?” Death Stranding – Kojima Productions showed a near nine-minute preview of new gameplay features in Director’s Cut, a PlayStation 5 video. In the Director’s Cut, Kojima Productions showed off new tools for delivery, such as a cargo launcher and boots that reduce fall damage. Buddy Bot was also shown in greater detail. A new feature allows Sam Porter Bridges to carry more cargo or ride with Buddy Bot while Buddy Bot hauls. You can also practice your weapons and “train and play” to earn high scores. But wait, there’s more!
