Here’s everything new in Death Stranding: Director’s Cut
Death Stranding: Director’s Cut was announced at Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest in June, so it makes sense that an even closer look would be revealed at Geoff Keighley’s Gamescom Opening Night Live. This is what Keighley and Hideo Kojima do for their best friends.
Kojima Productions showed a more detailed look at the Director’s Cut. They shared new delivery tools like a cargo launcher and boots that reduce fall damage. Buddy Bot was also shown in greater detail. A new feature allows Sam Porter Bridges to carry more cargo or ride with Buddy Bot while Buddy Bot hauls. You can also practice shooting weapons and compete for high scores.
There are new “action-packed delivery missions” coming. The clip shows Sam Porter Bridges going deep into what appears like a subterranean facility. Plus. There are new weapons, and you can also revisit boss battles. You can see them in your room. Players can compete again for high scores.
Too stressful? Too stressful? The Director’s Cut allows players to do stunts and tricks and a race on a track on their motorbikes or other vehicles. Yes, Death Stranding now has Mario Kart.
However, the trailer apparently replaced Sam Porter Bridges’ beloved Monster energy drinks with a generic brand. It was shocking!
Information about the Director’s Cut, including the fact Kojima doesn’t like the term “director’s cut”, has slowly been trickling out since June’s announcement. The new Death Stranding version will be available on PlayStation 5 starting Sept. 24. There are many other major improvements to this game beyond the ones discussed Wednesday. While many of the improvements are focused on combat, additional tools will help Sam Porter Bridges become a more efficient delivery man. These include the ride-on bot and catapult.
Gamescom officially began Wednesday with Keighley’s Livestream. However, Microsoft held its preshow on Tuesday. Yes, there were trebuchets. Gamescom 2021, like last year, is completely digital because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
