Dead by Daylight’s twist on Hellraiser’s puzzle box? Solving it is smart, actually
Pinhead will be coming to Dead by Daylight. The famous film monster from Hellraiseris a powerful Killer. Known as the Cenobite, Pinhead is very good at locking down Survivors and making them scramble, thanks to his array of hooks and chains.
Each Daylight Killer is endowed with a primary power that allows them to harm or shear Survivors. Pinhead’s primary power is Summons of Pain. This allows him to open a portal. After the portal has been opened, Pinhead can summon a chain from it to bind survivors.
In a Polygon call, Dave Richard, the creative director of Dead by Daylight, said, “We wanted new gameplay.” Pinhead allows you to direct the active action of the chain. It’s very skilful and interesting to control the projectile.
Richard compared Richard’s projectile to the Nurse Killer, who blinks and transforms into a UI-based object that can project through terrain without fear of collision.
Pinhead’s chain must connect to cause the target Survivor to be unable or unwillingly incapacitated. They can’t leave the map via the Exit Gate if the pinhead’s chains connect. As they hit with another and then the third chain, the chain’s slowing effect will increase. While the Trickster, Huntress, or Deathslinger needs to have a direct line of sight to their target, Pinhead can play a little five-dimensional chess with his portals.
Richard said that Pinhead’s power is dependent on a bit more strategy. He needed to learn more about the survivor and possible locations for a chase and the map. Pinhead’s chains may be broken by a survivor pulling it through terrain or Pinhead moving through them.
The Lament Configuration puzzle boxes add to his map presence. It will be faithfully recreated and placed on the map. If the Survivors don’t leave it alone, it begins to summon the tricky Chains. Pinhead can chain everyone on the map by using his Lament Configuration. Pinhead can see the survivors and teleport them to their destination. That is all that’s needed to stop this from happening.
The Cenobite has four hooks that can kill and persist, and it also comes with custom perks.
The Hellraiser chapter includes the Pinhead Killer but no new Survivors or maps. It will be available to Dead by Daylight in September…
