Dr Disrespect says he’s suing Twitch.
Guy “Dr Disrespect”, Beahm, said Tuesday that he would sue Twitch following the ban by Amazon’s streaming platform last year. Dot Esports reported Monday that the streamer had discussed the ban during a YouTube streaming that day. He revealed that he now knows the reason for his ban and that his team is “suing them the fuck.”
During the stream, Beahm stated that she knew for months the reason. “And I’ll tell you this now, champs. They are being sued for a reason. It’s hard to think of a better way to say it.
Beahm received his second — and permanent — ban in June 2020, despite having an exclusive streaming arrangement with Twitch. (Beahm’s first ban occurred in June 2019 after streamed live inside a bathroom at E3.) For months following the permanent ban, Beahm said he didn’t know why, and Twitch remained quiet, too. The streamer did not reveal the reason for Monday’s stream. Polygon reached out for more information to Beahm but has not received a response. Twitch declined to comment.
Beahm returned to streaming on YouTube with his Dr Disrespect character in August 2020. He stated that his team didn’t know why he was banned on Twitch during that stream. He stated, “As far I’m concerned we didn’t do any thing to warrant a ban. Let alone how they went about banning them.” “No communication, no reaching out, and no communication.”
Beahm stated Monday that he streams on YouTube for “a quarter” of what he made streaming on Twitch. Beahm claimed that the ban had also affected his “networking” opportunities through shadowbanning and blocklisting.
Twitch said in August that it would improve its ban notifications sent to suspended streamers by offering the date of a violation and the name of the content.
