Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon drops this winter for Nintendo Switch
Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon is a falling-block puzzle version of Yacht Club Games’ platformer and will be available on Nintendo Switch sometime in the winter.
Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon got a breakout trailer during Wednesday’s Indie World Livestream presentation from Nintendo. This is the sixth sequel to the franchise’s original series, dating back to 2014. Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon, billed as a “roguelite puzzle game hybrid,” was announced in February 2020.
A trailer was shown along with the announcement. Shovel Knight is given the task of matching enemies to form groups (a standard puzzle challenge), but he also becomes part of the board—the board changes when Shovel Knight moves. Clearing out rooms leads to him finding new areas. Some of these are procedurally generated. Yacht Club stated that the Shovel Knight series amiibo could also call in a “familiar fairy buddy”.
There is a Story Mode as well as a multiplayer Versus Mode. Yacht Club claims that 10 characters from Shovel Knight are included in the cast.
