Riot Games revealed the changes that fans can expect for next year’s League of Legends season. Riot Games released its preview post-Wednesday that detailed the changes to items, Elemental Rifts, and new out-of-game challenges players can unlock.

Riot’s first post on new changes focuses on Summoner’s Rift dragons. While the elemental dragons remain, their terrain changes are becoming more severe. The environments will change even more drastically after the second dragon passes away, and the map changes to the element of the third dragon.

Riot will also make major changes toLeague’s current systems. This will affect the game’s item system. Riot made significant changes to League’s items last year to improve player choices. Riot is trying to rework that idea this time. It wants to make Mythic items meaningful and not force players to choose Legendary items that don’t really matter.

Other game systems will also be tweaked in the 2022 season, such as Runes. These are receiving a few major changes, including a complete rework of the Inspiration keystones. Riot will also add new objective bounties that give gold to teams who are behind certain objectives. This is similar to the Champions bounties.

Riot hopes to make League of Legends more rewarding than the matches by introducing Challenges. Players can earn rewards and bonuses by completing challenges. All rewards are cosmetic. Riot is exploring new ways for players to show off their favourite champions on their profiles. Riot also wants to give players a greater sense of identity in the League of Legends.

This is just an overview of the changes coming to League by 2022. Riot will provide more information as season 12 gets closer to its launch in the second half of 2019.
