Borderlands is an open-world action first-person shooter videogame that was released in 2009. Gearbox calls Borderlands a “role-playing shooter” because it includes character-building elements that are common in role-playing games. Each player chooses one of four characters at the beginning of the game. Each character has a unique skill and is proficient with certain weapons. Players then take on missions that are assigned to them by non-player characters, bounty boards, or other players. Each mission usually rewards the player with experience points and money, as well as a reward item.
