Potentially Leaked by NetherRealm Employees: ‘Mortal Kombat 12,’
It is not surprising that successful videogame makers want more of their product, more money and more success. Mortal Kombat is a long-standing franchise releasing games to satisfy its fans’ needs. Read all about the history of Mortal Kombat, which was released in arcades in 1992. Since then, the series has produced one-on-one fighting games and numerous TV shows and movies. The most recent one came out in 2021, and there is already a sequel. It seems that the 12th instalment of this bloody fighting game will soon be revealed.
It appears that Reddit accidentally tweeted an image that showed Mortal Kombat12 – the sequel to 2019’s highly-received – is currently in production. Jonathan Andersen, a NetherRealm producer, posted a picture of a desk covered with Mortal Kombat imagery. However, the folder marked ‘MK12_Mast’ is on one screen in the photo. What could it possibly be?
SegmentNext reports that this file was located on a screen below a message from Christine Letheby, possibly NetherRealm production manager Christine Letheby, asking staff to guard confidential information regarding the next Mortal Kombat. You can see in the photo how she warns fans that they will “eagerly scan the internet for any information.” Whoops.
Some people think this photo is too juicy for an accident. It is just too perfect. A folder that contains sensitive information is next to an email that warns against divulging personal information—all the Mortal Kombat-style imagery – maybe suggesting who could appear in the next game. A Reptile file is also available on the show. Although Twitter deleted Andersen’s tweet, the photo is still available for viewing. NetherRealm and Warner Bros. publishers would indeed have been able to find a way to take that photo offline if there was a malicious, unintended leak. Yet, here we are.
One Reddit user comments, “This is 100% intentional.” Another user comments that it is all “incredibly orchestrated”, noting the discrepancies in the weather information and the actual weather on the date the photo was taken. Another user wrote, “This was intentional.”
