‘Horizon Forbidden West’ Runs Best On PS5 At 30fps
Horizon Forbidden West hits the shelves tomorrow. Already, a lot of hype has been created for the game. Guerilla Games worked hard to make sure both versions look top-notch. But, anyone who has the chance to own the legendary PS5 will want to make the most of the game with all the improvements the new hardware offers.
We praised the “huge open world, amazing new biomes and plenty of content to keep your busy” Horizon Forbidden West has to offer in our review. Some people were disappointed by the recommended specifications after reading an in-depth technical report from Digital Foundry.
Both Horizon‘s Resolution Mode (which optimizes settings for better graphic output) and the Performance Mode (which puts fast-paced gaming at its forefront), were tested. It recommends better graphics to get the most enjoyment from the game. Resolution Mode provides native 4K graphics and runs the game at only 30 frames per second. The Performance Mode offers 60fps, but only 1800p checkerboarded.
“When Forbidden west was first displayed running on PS5, it was running at 30fps. Now that we know more, I understand why they chose to concentrate on Resolution Mode. Digital Foundry admits that Performance Mode can support 60 frames per second throughout the play, but the stuttering seen in cutscenes makes Resolution Mode their preferred choice.
Load times are the most important improvement. Load times on PS4 and PS5 are vastly better than their predecessors. Horizon Zero Dawn used to take over a minute for fast travel, while the new release takes only five seconds. You can play Horizon in any way you like.
