FFXIV: Zenos’ Story Needs “No Additional Embellishment”
Three months after the launch of Final Fantasy XIV, FFXIVteam has finally begun to discuss its end openly. If you don’t want to allow people to talk about all aspects of the experience, it’s impossible to check the vibe. We’re seeing Live letters from the Producer, which hint at the next ten years.
Zenos yae Galvus, a troublemaker since Stormblood, has been with us ever since. Zenos, the son of Garlean Emperor Varis zos Galvus, was not a slave to his father’s lust after the conquest. He preferred to win the ultimate battle of wills and iron. He found it in the Warrior of Light and declared us “his first friend” during Stormblood.
Zenos continued to harass our storylines, including the Garlemald section in Endwalker. However, the expansion saw the end of his story. Many wondered if this was the end for Zenos and his desire of fighting the Warrior in Light. After all, Emet Selch returned in one form or another after what appeared to be his final death. Interview with GamesRadar: Endwalker story designer Natsuko Ishikawa confirmed that his story is finished.
Ishikawa says, “His story didn’t need any more embellishment, nor any additional happiness or misery.”
Ishikawa also defended Zenos from the notion that he was a simple, evil villain. She praises Zenos’ ability to persevere through “all the trial and error necessary” to reach his goals. Zenos may not be interested in anything else, but he is determined to fight the Warrior of Light one more time. He is willing to do anything to reach his goals.
Naoki Yoshida, the FFXIV lead producer, also pointed out that Zenos’ last question, “Did… fulfilment”, was just as important to the player as it was to Warrior of Light. Zenos is now an avatar for the entire team of developers as Endwalker draws to a close.
The story of Hydaelyn, Zodiark and Zenos is over. We now stand against the evil denizens at Pandaemonium, and the looming threat of Job balancing. We’ll soon be heading into the future Final Fantasy XIV. Even though we have seen an end, the journey is not yet. You can find out more about the future here at.
