Chris Rock Apologizes to Will Smith for the Oscars Incident
After slapping Chris Rock in the face at the Oscars earlier this year, Will Smith issued a public apology.
Smith and Rock were the unanticipated talking points at the Academy Awards. The King Richard star shocked viewers when he climbed up on stage to hit Rock, a comedian and host, for making a joke regarding his wife, Jada Pinkett.

Over the last 24 hours, there has been a flood of opinions. Most were from people who didn’t know what they were talking about. This is the beauty of the internet. Many believe Smith did the right things by “defending his wife.” Others believe Rock should have been allowed to joke about his wife without being attacked. However, the counterargument is that it isn’t great looking to exploit a woman’s illness just for giggles.
Smith has apologized to Rock, regardless of your opinion.
In a post on Instagram, the Wild Wild Weststar stated that violence is destructive and poisonous. “My behaviour at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable. Jokes are part of the job. However, a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much to bear, so I emotionally reacted.
Chris, I would like to apologize to you publicly. I was not in line with the rules, and I was wrong. My actions are embarrassing, and they do not reflect the man I want. Violence is not allowed in a world filled with love and kindness.”
He said, “I also want to apologize to Academy, producers of the show and all those who attended the event. I apologize to my King Richard Family and the Williams Family. My behaviour has ruined an otherwise incredible journey for us all. I am still learning.
