Twitch is being used to post banned NSFW content.
It becomes nearly impossible to monitor all content on a platform for live streaming as large as Twitter.
The platform, which focuses primarily on gaming content, relies on users reporting any streams that violate community guidelines. This includes violating the law, violence, threats, harassing behavior, and nudity. Twitch’s treatment of rulebreakers has been criticized. Streamers are frequently banned after an infraction but never were informed exactly what they did. Some streamers, however, seem to be able to dodge the ban hammer despite serious violations.
Twitch launched a new system to promote creator channels at the end of 2021. Some streamers were allowed to opt into community boosts. This system allows viewers to donate Channel Points (the currency earned by watching content continuously), and then their favorite creators will appear on the top page for a brief time.
Depending on the popularity of your stream, the Channel Points required and the number who will see the boosted stream vary. Channel Points are needed to make your channel appear under recommended streams. The more subscribers you have, the more Channel Points you will need.
GAMINGbible was able to speak with 360Chrism, a Twitch streamer that is a partner. He explained more about the system. While some have incorrectly claimed that the community boost is free to use, Chris clarified that partners couldn’t pay for coverage on the front pages. “Twitch is likely just trying new ways to implement boosts. This feature was exploited yesterday (30 March). Many people posted screenshots and clips on Twitter showing not-safe-for-work content promoted during a community boost. The Grand Theft Auto V tag was used to stream the channel. The title of the canal was REAL MAGIC. However, the thumbnail showed a woman with her naked breasts, and some users claimed that the stream was streaming videos from PornHub.
Although the account was banned due to violating the terms of service, the experience has brought the controversial feature again under the spotlight because it can be used to post inappropriate content on Twitch’s homepage.
