Paradox Development Studio continues to highlight the expansion’s features as Stellaris Overlord approaches. Today’s development diary 250 is focused on two new buildings: the Quantum Catapult and the Orbital rings. It also includes information about the last specialist empire, The Scholarium.

Stellaris: Overlord’s Orbital rings building is a Starbase variant which, when constructed, provides additional defence and specialization to the planet it encircles. These planets can’t be invaded until the building has been disabled.

Initial Orbital Rings have two slots for modules and no slots for building. You can upgrade the building twice by adding one module or building slot for each tier. These modules are similar to Starbases. The Habitation Module is specific to the new building and gives the planet a new district slot.

“Systems with multiple planets can be a very difficult problem if you create multiple defence orbital rings supporting the bastion starbase in the centre,” reads Dev diary 250.

A large, well-placed ring around your planet can be a great opportunity to add some buildings. These can be stacked with similar buildings on the planetside.

Quantum Catapult is all about enhancing the mobility of your fleets.

“Quantum Catapults are built around Neutron Stars and Pulsars. They can launch fleets across amazing distances of space. However, these megastructures are not accurate over long distances.

They reach much further than regular jump drives. However, they are more likely to arrive at their destination somewhere within a scatter radius.

Quantum Catapults don’t apply jump debuffs, and they also have a passive effect that reduces fleet MIA times. They are more accurate and have a greater range.

The Scholarium, the last specialist empire to be established after the launch of Stellaris Overlord, is called the Scholarium. It is science-focused and relies on the defence of those it protects.

These allow you to search faster for information and offer additional options. They also reduce your naval capacity and increase the costs of building and maintaining military vessels.
