Jason Momoa to Star in The Movie “Minecraft”, For Some Reason
Although there were many squares on my “unusual notices for 2022” bingo card, the Minecraft movie that received an update like this was not.
In 2014, Markus ‘Notch” Persson, founder and former owner of Minecraft, posted that a Minecraft movie was being made with Warner Bros. Microsoft bought Mojang in the same year for $2.5billion. Not much has been reported since. Due to the ongoing pandemic and no release date, there have been many delays.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a few details have been revealed about the production. First, Jared Hess of Napoleon Dynamite fame was hired to direct the film. However, it is still in preproduction. The film is being produced by Mojang Studios’ Lydia Winters, Vu Bui, and movie producers Roy Lee and Mary Parent, which produced the Oscars’ Best Picture nominee .
It is no surprise that Jason Momoa, a Hollywood beefcake, has been signed to star in the Minecraftfilm. He is currently working for Warner Bros. on the Aquamansequel Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom. He could be participating in the Minecraft movie as part of his contract with the studio.
Recent revivals in video game movies are a sign of things to come. Sonic The Hedgehog II is quickly becoming one of the most beloved video game adaptations. This is not all, and the Uncharted movie did better than expected at the box office despite the negative reviews.
Maybe Jason Momoa’s acting skills are just what you need to bring Minecraft Steve to life.
