Valve has become almost as famous for its unique games as abandoning franchises and focusing on its online store, Steam.

Although they have been cancelled, many other series’ futures remain uncertain. Nintendo has just announced the Portal Companion Collection for Nintendo Switch. This will bring together the two Portal games on one Nintendo console. Valve recently transferred a lot of its teams to developing the Steam Deck portable. This includes a mini Portal spinoff game created to demonstrate the handheld’s capabilities. Some have wondered if Valve plans to revive their game of Teleport Tennis.

In an interview with KiwiTalks, Erik Wolpaw reveals that he is excited to start work on the third mainline game of the series. The host created a petition for Gabe Newell at the end of the program, and Wolpaw stated that “We have to start Portal3.” This is my message to…to whoever.”

Wolpaw expressed dismay that he might not be able to write at the end of his life. Wolpaw left Valve to begin Psychonauts2. However, he has returned as a contractor. Kim Swift, the creator of Portal, may be more difficult to identify. Kim Swift has been a long-time Valve employee and is currently employed in publishing for Xbox Game Studios.

“I could work on another Portal in a second, but I don’t have the time or resources to make it happen myself. It might be something I could advocate for, which may help a bit. But there are a lot of opportunity costs to having 75 people involved in making a game. Even though it may seem like Valve is a bunch of people sipping gin & tonics by a pool all the time, everyone’s working. You’d have to take them. It’s almost like a revolution. Get a bunch of people involved in something new and get them to quit what they’re doing. In this case, it would be portal 3.

The Portal 3revolution seems to be dead. However, it is possible that others could join the revolution depending on how the Portal sales go.
