Minecraft snapshot 22w17a finally introduces Goat Horns

This week’s Minecraft snapshot is now available as we move closer to The Wild update this summer. Minecraft snapshot 22w17a finally has Goat Horns, a new mob drop long in the making… along with some updates to The Warden (and The Allay).

New Goat Horns make a great sound.

This week’s Minecraft snapshot has the main change: the addition of the Goat Horn. Goat Horns do not drop when you kill a Goat. Instead, they drop when a Goat hits a block such as Stone, trees, or Ores. Sometimes they can be found in Pillager Outpost chests, so make sure you have a look before you leave to get some Allays.

The player can use the Goat Horns to produce a loud, long-range sound similar to the one heard during a Pillager Raid. There are eight different types of Goat Horn. Each one has its sound. Four of them are only available to be dropped by screaming goats. Take a look at snapshot 22w17a for all the details.

The Warden is changing.

A few adjustments have been made to the Warden’s terrifying Ranged Attack. We believe the attack will now bypass Shields and Armor. This is a bug fix, as it should have been presumably always been.

The Warden’s ranged attacks now do 10 damage instead of 30, which is a nerf. This makes it less powerful than the mob’s melee attack. The cooldown between ranged attacks decreased from five seconds down to two. A new death message will be displayed to those killed by The Warden’s ranged attack.

The Warden has made a final change this week. It now drops an item upon dying. Previously, The Warden did not drop any items except a few Exp Orbs. This was because the goal of The Warden is to evade it and not kill him. This is still true, but if you or an external cause manage to kill the Deep Dark beast, it will drop one Sculk Catalyst upon its death.

The Allay is changing.

The Allays have made a few changes to their behavior in Minecraft snapshot 22w17a. This includes a bug fix in which Wool could not block the sound of an Allayconnecting to a Note Block. This bug has been fixed.

The visualization of an Allay connecting to a Note Block has been updated with a stronger vibration particle. These changes are related to the increased importance of sound and vibrations due to the Deep Dark and Sculk Blocks.

The official Minecraft changelog contains a complete list of all the changes made this week and some bug fixes. It is a guide that will show you how to create a Minecraft snapshot.

It’s wonderful to finally have a goat to use (aside from jumping around and looking cute), and these subtle changes suggest that we may be closer to the next phase. Fingers crossed!
