Today Developer Dice confirmed that it will cease developing new content for Battlefield’s Hazard Zone mode. Lars Gustavsson, Creative Director, said that it is a smaller PvPvE experience, which supports 32 players. However, it has not gained the desired popularity.

Instead, the team behind the game will shift resources from Hazard Zone to Battlefield 2042’s All-Out Warfare experience. This has been more popular among players.

This model featured multiple teams of players racing across smaller versions of BF2042 launch maps to retrieve data drives. Then they tried their best to extract the data. There were very few opportunities to do this and maps were constantly patrolled by AI hostiles.

Hazard Zone had even a self-contained economy, but it failed to deliver on its promise of a compelling Tarkovlite experience. It felt at times a bit pointless to play.

This is undoubtedly disappointing for anyone who still enjoys the mode. Season1 will arrive next month. It will add 32-player Rush to All-Out Warfare and a slate unannounced of new content.

This will hopefully be a step in the right direction to get Battlefield 242’s live services back on track following its difficult launch.
