Official Confirmation by Bethesda of ‘Fallout 5,’
Todd Howard, Bethesda’s boss, has confirmed that Fallout5 will be Bethesda Game Studio’s next big RPG. This means it could arrive around 2048.
Howard had previously confirmed that Bethesda would focus properly on The Elder Scrolls VI. This is currently in “preproduction” and will be released after Starfield launches. After a delay, the ambitious sci-fi RPG is scheduled to be released in the first half of 2023.
The Elder Scrolls VI doesn’t have a release window, making it difficult to determine when it might finally arrive. Howard’s comments remind Bethesda has not finished the popular post-apocalyptic series.
Howard stated that Elder Scrolls VI was in preproduction. “We’re also going to be doing Flashback 5 after that,” Howard said to IGN. We also have other projects we are interested in from time to time.”
Howard previously told IGN that Bethesda has an idea for Flashback 5. He explained that Fallout is a part of our DNA. We’ve collaborated with other [developers] time and time again – I don’t know what’s going to happen. We have a one-pager about Fallout5 that outlines what we want to accomplish.
It remains to be seen what Bethesda’s big ideas are for the next Fallout. I think the studio should be looking at Fallout London for inspiration on how to make a Fallout game that is both familiar and truly surprising.
Starfield is the next installment in Bethesda’s RPGs. The game boasts 1,000 open planets, so we’ll be busy even while we wait for Fallout 5.
