Metal Gear Solid: The Beginner’s Guide: Everything you Need to Know
Metal Gear Solid may be the most difficult series to explain, aside from Kingdom Hearts. The series’ original story follows a superspy who undertakes missions to prevent nuclear war. However, the franchise goes so far beyond this point that it includes vampires, psychics and cyborgs as well as men who can genuinely fire hornets at your face in an attack.
This might sound like your type of crazy. You may want to explore the bizarre world of Metal Gear Solid. We have the perfect guide for you if you are interested in all things Metal Gear. Let’s get started!
Who made metal gear solid?
Kojima is an author’s vision for his games. He is often praised for both his innovative gameplay design and his unique brand storytelling and out-there characters.
Although Kojima seems to be done with the series now, he left behind a great legacy of games and continues to work via his studio, Kojima Productions, on cool new projects such as Death Stranding.
What is Metal Gear Solid About?
Metal Gear Solid follows Solid Snake a former CIA operative that has helped save the world from nuclear war many times. He is a retired man at the beginning of the series but he returns for one last job. Solid Snake is assigned to Alaska to stop a terrorist cell that has emerged from his former unit, FOXHOUND.
Every member of the unit can have special abilities. These abilities range from being an expert with revolvers and sniper rifles to being a master of disguise or psychic. This sums up the majority of the games. Snake battles a lot of weirdos to save the world.
What is a “Metal Gear?”
The Metal Gear is central to each game’s plot. These mechs or battle tanks can fire nuclear missiles from any location on the planet. They are extremely dangerous because they do not have to adhere to diplomatic rules of war such as deterrence.
The fun part is when you must defeat one of these monstrosities at each end. It’s hard to beat giant robots using only a missile launcher and your skills. Metal Gear Solid is as innovative and exciting as it can be because of the insane situations they create.
Who is the Solid Snake?
Solid Snake is a gritty-voiced superspy with a deep voice who saves the world every day but never gets the credit, since all his missions are kept secret. Solid Snake has a heavy conscience due to all the hard work he’s done and the people he killed to accomplish his missions.
He is slow to trust others and much less likely to share his feelings. Snake is a lonely soldier with few friends. He also keeps his distance when he’s on missions. He trusts only Campbell, a former colonel, Hal Emmerich (a scientist he saved during a mission), and Meryl Silverburgh (occasional love interest).
What happened to Metal Gear Solid?
Metal Gear Solid V was made. Konami and Kojima started to resent the long-running and costly production. After the conflict, Kojima was demoted to contractors. He and his team had to be reorganized to complete the game.
These factors led to the campaign of Metal Gear Solid V being cut short. Worse, Kojima was officially terminated by Konami and the franchise. Although Konami tried to revive the series through efforts such as Metal Gear Survive it seems like fans don’t care about the series without their creator. Since early 2018, there hasn’t been any new entries in the series.
Canon Metal Gear Solid Games in Order
Although there are more than a dozen games within the Metal Gear series on many different platforms only a few are considered canon. This is partly due to the fact that not all of the games were developed or produced in Hideo Kojima’s universe. Other instances, such as the Metal Gear Acid spin-off, are considered canon. The following is the story order and release dates for the series.
Metal Gear
– Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake
Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater
– Metal Gear Solid 4, Guns of the Patriots
Peace Walker: Metal Gear Solid
– Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
– Metal Gear Solid v: The Phantom Pain
Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops and Metal Gear Solid are both canon. However, the Twin Snakes are well worth your time if you can find them. The two Acid games may be for you if turn-based strategy appeals to you.
