SimCity 4 was released a decade ago, and this is the first major release in the SimCity franchise since then. This game can be considered a reboot for the SimCity franchise. The game allows players to create settlements that grow into cities by creating zones for industrial, residential and commercial development. They can also build and maintain public transport, utilities and services.
SimCity is powered by a GlassBox engine, which allows for a more realistic simulation. SimCity’s new engine, reimagined game play, and its redesigned gameplay received praise throughout its development. However, some publications warned against the use of persistent Internet connections, which are used to store saved games and allow players to share their resources. SimCity was well received prior to its release. However, it met with a negative response at launch due to widespread gameplay and technical issues related to the requirement of using a network to save and play the game.
The issues were network failures, difficulties with saving progress, and difficulties connecting to the servers. Some reviewers, unable to give a review, called the launch “a disaster” and said the game was “unplayably broke”, encouraging players not to purchase the game until these issues are resolved.
