The Last Of Us studio announces brand-new single player experience
Naughty Dog has confirmed their new single player experience for The Last of Us studio.
Naughty Dog has certainly been keeping itself busy recently. Not only has the studio released The Last of Us Part I as a remake for PS3, which came out in 2022; PC users had issues with its port while anticipating The Last of Us Part III being announced soon as well as expected difficulties from an ineffective PC port of The Last of Us Part I being implemented by Naughty Dog’s PC port team.
Naughty Dog has provided no concrete information regarding The Last of Us standalone multiplayer game since its initial announcement in 2022; details on it remain scarce at present and do not reveal its formula or whether or not it will be free-to-play. They did release new concept art earlier this year though!
Fans were hoping to witness The Last of Us’s multiplayer offering for themselves at this year’s PlayStation Showcase event; unfortunately that did not materialize. According to journalist Jeff Grubb, The Last of Us multiplayer offering had originally planned on appearing but was pulled from consideration due to technical reasons.
Additionally, from an outsider perspective it appears as if the multiplayer game is in trouble. A tweet by DomTheBombYT claimed by Jason Schreier (another video game journalist), suggested the possibility that its cancellation is imminent.
Bungie was apparently called upon to evaluate the progress of Naughty Dog’s game; however, when questions about its ability to keep players engaged arose as part of this assessment process. Naughty Dog is said to have reconsidered its development plans accordingly.
Naughty Dog has revealed, likely as an attempt to stave off speculation, that The Last of Us multiplayer game requires additional time in development. As this multiplayer title never had an exact release date or schedule for launch, its arrival cannot yet be predicted with certainty.
“Naughty Dog understands many have been eagerly waiting to learn more about The Last of Us multiplayer game and are immensely proud of all our hard work at development, but as time progresses it has become apparent what would benefit it the most is to give this project more attention,” Naughty Dog stated in its statement.
At least there’s some positive news: Naughty Dog has confirmed in their statement that other games, “including an all-new single player experience”, are currently under development and that more details would be forthcoming at a later time.
As of now, we can only guess at the nature of this new single-player title. While The Last of Us Part III seems likely, perhaps this new PlayStation 5 title could bring with it something completely unique or be another Uncharted title in time? Only time will tell.
