John Carpenter’s new zombie game looks to be similar in scope and design to Days Gone in terms of controls and aesthetic.
Combine horror moviemaking and video gaming for an unbeatable combination!
At this point, it’s no secret that John Carpenter, one of the greatest horror movie makers ever, is also an avid video game enthusiast. Not only has he expressed his fondness for Red Dead Redemption in past interviews; he’s even expressed interest in making a Dead Space movie one day! Surely only time stands between us and seeing John Carpenter take on video gaming with Toxic Commando? That will happen this July with John Carpenter.
Carpenter joined Saber Interactive during Summer Game Fest 2018 to unveil Toxic Commando as part of their co-op FPS title Toxic Commando – and with that came its signature World War Z style gameplay that also has some shades of Days Gone nostalgia thrown into the mix! It features four player cooperative FPS action.
Set in the near future, our planet has fallen to ruin following a botched experiment in which Earth’s core imploded and unleashed an Eldritch abomination known as Sludge God that transforms “soil into scum and living to undead monsters”. John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando will support up to four players; each character having unique skills, abilities, weapons and plays styles for maximum fun and player engagement! Additionally players will have options of combatting monsters both physically or plough through them with vehicles!
“Saber Interactive is thrilled to collaborate with legendary John Carpenter on this project,” read a statement issued by Saber Interactive. Carpenter’s unique vision, unparalleled storytelling expertise and ability to craft immersive atmospheres have enabled Saber to elevate this all-new, 80s inspired adventure experience further. For decades his works have inspired us and it is our privilege and honour to work alongside him to deliver one truly unforgettable adventure!
John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando does not yet have an exact release date set in stone; however, we know it will arrive on PC (via Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S sometime during 2024.
