From now on, Xbox will aim to release four major first-party titles every year.
Going forward, Xbox will reportedly strive to release four major first party developer titles each year.
Last Sunday’s Xbox Showcase gave us all a taste of what is to come for Xbox, such as an extended look at Starfield and new exclusives such as Forza Motorsport, Avowed and Fable. However, industry insiders believe there may be even more surprises up Xbox’s sleeve; plans may include even more exclusives from its first-party developers in coming years.
Stephen Totolio tweeted the following statement about this matter recently. Xbox Studios CEO Matt Booty recently stated they believe they have “turned the corner” on game releases. Additionally, Matt hinted there may still be 2024 titles not yet announced (but this could also imply 2025 as it wasn’t entirely clear) with four big releases planned each year.”
Xbox is ambitiously targeting four big releases each year and that goal seems achievable, especially given their recent spending spree with acquisitions such as Bethesda. Starfield should become available through Bethesda shortly while Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5 might become exclusive Xbox releases as well.
Activision Blizzard, however, remains under dispute after pushback from UK regulators. Xbox is “committed” to purchasing Activision Blizzard and is working towards finding solutions with regulators in this instance. Stephen Totolio of Xbox has stated this publicly as part of an interview on Bloomberg Television about this attempt at acquisition by Xbox.
Activision Blizzard could represent an enormous opportunity for Xbox. A deal would allow them to feature popular franchises like Call Of Duty on Xbox Game Pass while opening up additional exclusive game opportunities with franchises like Spyro The Dragon, Crash Bandicoot and Diablo among many more. Both parties appear open to considering all possible solutions when it comes to reaching an agreement, including possibly withdrawing certain Activision Blizzard titles from UK markets altogether.
After years of falling far behind PlayStation, Xbox finally seems poised to catch up in terms of AAA titles – although exclusives offered by PS5 remain fierce competition for them both.
