Star Citizen development continues apace and according to recent reports, production costs for Star Citizen now outweigh those associated with Cyberpunk 2077, Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined.

Star Citizen by Cloud Imperium Games has gained quite the notoriety in recent years. After its crowdfunding page launched back in 2010, fans managed to raise an astounding $500,000,000, as reported by BoredGamer. By 2019 an estimated total spend had already hit approximately $320,100,000. Since earlier this year – after an alpha test caused mass outages – so much money would need to be thrown at this game before full release; well it continues growing by leaps and bounds!

As reported by PCGamesN, Star Citizen is said to have amassed $580,000,000 so far according to its funding page. To give an idea of its size and scope, Grand Theft Auto V was reported as costing approximately $137 Million when developed; Red Dead Redemption 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 each cost $170 Million making their combined development costs total $481 Million; far lower than what Star Citizen has collected!

Sure enough, this game must be imminent – in fact, some players have suggested as such for years. An alpha test earlier this year introduced “immersive careers, stunning locations, and thrilling gameplay.” After initial outages were resolved, partial stability issues persisted; nevertheless many praised its overall performance as they played.

Fans must eventually grow weary of waiting though; 10 years is quite some time! And we are also close to seeing another space epic released – Starfield will hit stores this September; therefore we will remain up-to-date with Star Citizen updates as time progresses.
