Destiny 2 Subreddits Are Down During Reddit Blackout

Are You Wondering Why Some Destiny 2 Subreddits Can’t Be Accessed? The reason could be protest. Many popular Destiny 2 subreddits have gone private to protest new changes coming to Reddit that won’t favorably impact them; these forums serve an integral purpose within the Destiny 2 Community; yet during its blackout even r/DestinyTheGame cannot be reached for collaboration or communication purposes.

Destiny 2 community members will soon be able to return to browsing their forums following a Reddit blackout in 48 hours, according to an announcement on r/RaidSecrets private subreddit. Other popular Destiny subreddits r/CrucibleGuidebook and r/DestinyFashion have joined this initiative too.

“With 95% support of our community, DestinyTheGame has gone offline temporarily for at least two days to show our solidarity with third-party developers impacted by Reddit’s new API pricing structure,” as per an r/DestinyTheGame subreddit message.

API stands for “application programming interface,” enabling two different programs to interact and access some form of information between themselves. Any third-party apps you use on Reddit rely on APIs; however, Reddit recently announced it plans on charging users access to its APIs similar to Twitter Blue subscription plans which give access. Historically these were free APIs; recent social media developments shifting towards paid models may alter things drastically.

After hearing Reddit’s decision, some popular third-party applications plan to discontinue, such as Apollo criticising their pricing structure as it costs them approximately $20 Million annually.
