Final Fantasy XIV recently introduced a Shadow Wolf mount, but players are angry over its acquisition process.
Fans are outraged over Square Enix’s decision to place this mount exclusively in Mogstation rather than making it available as part of in-game progression. Players had anticipated receiving it as reward for leveling and unlocking spells for Blue Mage characters – instead it has been made available as cash shop item instead.
The Shadow Wolf mount was inspired directly from one of Shadowbringers’ raids – E10 or E10S players battled Shadowkeeper boss in E10 or E10S raids and now this mount can be obtained in cash shop for $24 USD.
The dog-like mount will run on all fours when on the ground, shifting into standing when players begin flying it. Anyone still unsure whether to purchase can see how it looks both on both platforms as well as watch an online store video of its behavior – helpful for making their purchase decision!
Final Fantasy XIV’s Twitter post revealing its new Brooding Wolf mount was met with considerable disbelief by many players, who expected that instead of handing over hard-earned cash they could earn it instead of handing it over for unlock. Blue Mage players hoping that new content to improve their job in Patch 6.45 might finally reward their hard work would earn this mount instead.
After Patch 6.45 releases in a few months, there has been much uncertainty as to whether players who complete Blue Mage content will even receive any worthwhile reward, like a mount, as they attempt to complete all its chapters. Due to how its skills operate, collecting spells for this job may take extra work due to how spell collection works – players were hoping that this reward would show their dedication – but now there remains uncertainty as no official promise has been given yet of an adequate reward at all for doing their duty in Blue Mages content.
