Call Of Duty releases annually and this year has proven no different, with leaked images showing multiplayer maps for Modern Warfare III appearing online.

Activision announced recently it would move away from annual releases in favor of protracting life of new titles via live-service support – this plan originally applied to Call Of Duty Modern Warfare II (2022), with promises of post launch support including new maps and modes from its predecessor Modern Warfare II (2009).

Unfortunately, plans appear to have changed abruptly as leaked images from Call Of Duty Modern Warfare III show remakes of classic maps from MW2, initially planned as DLC but since implemented into an entirely different game.

Reddit user PK-Ricochet posted links to leaked images of Sledgehammer Games’ MWII DLC that was initially planned as year 2 DLC; instead it has become its own standalone release.”

Terminal and Scrapyard were two fan-favourite maps from what many consider Call Of Duty’s golden age; many players were hoping they might return in future updates.

Call Of Duty fans were clearly dismayed at Activision’s move to turn planned DLC into full price content releases.

“What a misfire! One of OG MW2’s iconic maps wasn’t even included in its respective game! Talk about milking the fanbase.”

“That should teach me not to buy COD games! When I bought Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022), on the promise it would last longer, my mistake. Unfortunately for me and everyone else involved with COD games in general MW2 (2022) turned out not being anything I expected it would be; another valuable lesson learned: never trust any promises made by companies when purchasing their product; they can lie through their teeth to drive initial sales.”

“I am absolutely furious they turned the DLC for World of War 2 into World of War 3 [MW3], especially after buying only this game thinking there would be all original maps made for that dlc in Year Two DLC if MW3 outsells World of War II!” “If MW3 outsales World of War 2, my faith in cod community may diminish severely”

Call Of Duty has recently seen an apparent sharp decrease in its success. Not only are some Activision titles potentially leaving the UK market, it has recently been reported that cosmetic skin purchases and microtransactions allow players to gain easier matches online; this directly links back into community concerns that Call Of Duty releases are becoming “greedier”.
