EA announces name change as part of major industry shakeup
Electronic Arts has made changes within itself that aim to boost internal efficiency, including restructuring plans that include changing its name – now EA Games itself is no longer EA!
As reported by IGN, EA CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed to IGN that EA Games’ leadership structure and realignment will occur to “empower our creative teams”. Notably, in addition to receiving its new name and separation from EA Sports, it will now also receive its own distinct entity status.
Wilson revealed EA Games will become EA Entertainment, representing “massive opportunities for growth”. But just what do they stand for now? Nothing too drastic here… it includes EA Seattle Studio, BioWare Originals DICE Respawn Entertainment Ripple Effect Motive Studio Ridgeline Games Full Circle
While EA Sports continues to develop what you expect of them – EA Sports FC, PGA Tour, Madden NFL NHL F1 series plus Super Mega Baseball and reboot of College Football
Laura Miele will now serve as EA Entertainment’s president of entertainment, technology and central development. Chris Bruzzo (the Chief Experience Officer of EA Entertainment), as well as Chris Suh (Chief Financial Officer of EA Entertainment), are leaving with retirement on their respective roles; these voids will be filled by David Tinson and Stuart Canfield respectively; Cam Weber will continue leading EA Sports.
Though these changes might seem minor, their purpose is for studio leaders to gain greater autonomy within their parts of the company. Wilson noted: “Over the next several months Stuart, Laura, Cam, and David will work closely with studio leaders to implement organizational changes which embed dedicated capabilities within franchise teams while driving operational rigor.”
How this affects EA’s video game releases is yet to be determined – we shall just have to stay tuned and watch this space.
