Official confirmation was recently given regarding Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera being permanently closed down come September.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, recently rebranded as Call of Duty: Warzone due to confusion, was not met with great fan enthusiasm upon its initial release in July 2012. Since its introduction, fans have voiced numerous grievances related to maps and footstep audio; nonetheless it has been nice that fans can continue playing Call of Duty’s original Warzone for so long – although those days appear to be coming to an end soon enough.

As announced on the Call of Duty site blog post on 21 September 2023, Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera will shut down. Our teams will focus on future content including free-to-play experience such as Warzone Freeplay for Call of Duty games such as Warzone Caldera. Since its initial launch of Call of Duty franchise we all had incredible Warzone experiences including those here.

At first blush, fans aren’t amused with Activision’s decision and its subsequent boycott by many gamers on Reddit – many even suggesting boycotting Activision! As reported by Video Gamer.

“They couldn’t care less about you – pick up single player games or fighting games instead; just stop supporting Activision!” said one fan in an now deleted comment.

Others have shared similar sentiments. “Caldera and its players are our main focus, I won’t join WZ2 as it appears they need new blood,” wrote nedimiedin. Campuscodi posted: “RIP to one of my all time favorite battle royale games ever! This will also mark my last donation ever to this company!” He even made clear his intent of not contributing another penny towards any DLC content for Call of Duty after this issue has settled – “F**k them,” stated Comrade2k7!

Make the most of Warzone Caldera before it disappears completely; Activision appears unlikely to change their mind on this decision.
