No matter your thoughts about The Super Mario Bros. Movie, chances are if you are an ardent Mario fan you watched yesterday’s Nintendo Direct presentation.

As much as the event might not deliver every game fans were hoping to see, E3 still managed to deliver plenty of exciting unveilings – such as a remake of Super Mario RPG, Princess Peach-themed title and Batman Arkham Trilogy on Switch – that left people excited and anticipatory.

As noted by Kotaku, much has been made about trailers for Super Mario Bros. Wonder and WarioWare: Move It!, with some noting their voices being different than usual.

Since the Direct, fans have debated if Mario and Wario appear in these promotional spots with voice over by Charles Martinet; who has provided video game voiceover for both characters since the 1990s.

Twitter and ResetEra users appear divided on how best to deal with this matter; some believe nothing unusual exists with regards to voice acting while others find certain lines unsettlingly unusual.

On one platform, user kami_sama wrote, “Mario doesn’t sound the same anymore compared to what Martinet used to. Something has definitely changed” while RochHoch insisted “Mario sounds exactly the same!”

As such, many have attempted to formulate theories as to why Martinet may sound different in these new games, including him changing voice over time; others speculate about whether his role has been completely recast altogether.

As yet, Nintendo has yet to acknowledge this controversy and allow fans to speculate freely.

If you prefer not getting involved, The Direct offers wonderful elephant Mario for people just looking to observe. His curvier physique and nice trunk allow people to easily gaze upon him for hours on end without becoming bored with staring.

No matter your opinion of yesterday’s Direct, make sure to follow us for updates regarding any games shown during or announced during it.
