Are You Suffering From Destiny 2’s Microtransaction Problem

YouTuber Aztecross recently uploaded a video titled, “Destiny 2 Has Been Devoted to Microtransaction Hell,” sparking extensive community dialogue over its current state and receiving over one million views in just days.

Datto discusses Bungie’s implementation of microtransactions shortly after releasing Destiny: The Taken King; however, he remains wary that these might go beyond cosmetic purchases alone and now, post-Destiny 2: Lightfall release, Aztecross believes Bungie may have already crossed this threshold.

Aztecross says in this half-hour video that Bungie is moving into pay-to-win territory by offering season pass boosts, campaign skips for secondary characters, and early access to Exotic weapons preordered through preorder. Players who pay instantly gratifying fees such as season pass boosts can gain materials early; though its definition as pay-to-win remains controversial.

He discussed all the deceiving ways Bungie has of getting players to use credit cards, and problems associated with overpriced Eververse items and Silver bundles; I found some other aspects of his argumentation compelling as well.

Aztecross brings up how most Ghosts, Sparrows and ships released directly go to the Eververse store without going through activity rewards – this really bothers me as microtransactions! There are various cosmetic upgrades for purchase but I would rather get these rewards through activity rewards instead.

He adds that free special events, like Dawning, lock in exclusive cosmetics behind Silver instead of allowing players to earn them through event triumphs. Bungie also markets Eververse-exclusive cosmetics alongside events and new activities; which raises valid concerns in a game focused on earning loot. I still feel frustrated over taking multiple runs through Prophecy Dungeon before realizing a Sparrow from its trailer is part of Eververse rather than my reward from Prophecy Dungeon!

Consistent price hikes for new seasons and expansions as well as charging an additional cost for Dungeons is concerning; neither are payments being any simpler on our wallets.

Although discussions surrounding play-to-win and microtransactions aren’t exactly new, how are you feeling about Destiny 2 at its current state?
