Even though video game pets and animals might not exist in real life, it can still be easy to build strong attachments with those found there – take it from me; my Nintendogs have left me guilt-ridden since my first visit!
Nintendo was wise in sparing younger gamers the trauma of watching their virtual pets die during Nintendogs games; other developers have not been as considerate. Red Dead Redemption 2’s horse death probability can be devastatingly upsetting; so when spending hours bonding and exploring together can become quite stressful!
Game Rant reports that one Reddit user recently shared an emotional tribute for their in-game horse after it passed, prompting others to recall similar accounts of loss in-game horses. Practical-Stable2403 wrote, “My horse died so I’m carrying the saddle all the way back home because,” and shared two screenshots showcasing Arthur Morgan carrying its empty saddle across terrain to camp just because.
My horse recently passed, so i am carrying his saddle back home for sentimental value.
Others have shown sympathy towards Practical-Stable2403 through reddeadredemption2. Some commented in sympathy of his gesture; as per Snoreasaurus3553: “After having my horse die up near Brandywine Falls I felt I should carry its saddle back all the way home in honour of Chonk, may he rest in peace” and Boomboomofi felt “literally grieved when her Avery died”. Some players admitted reloading save games just so their horses wouldn’t die: when MallowWillow saw her horse die suddenly and immediately loaded a previous save because it made them so sad: “[when she] suddenly came bounding down from above when I whistled a whistled,” wrote MallowWillow.
