New documents indicate the unveiling of a brand-new PlayStation console later this year.
Microsoft may have just given official confirmation about a PlayStation console coming this year, according to sources familiar with their plans and operations.
Though it might be unexpected, much of gaming news recently has come about thanks to Microsoft and their court battle with the Federal Trade Commission over Activision Blizzard’s proposed acquisition by them. Microsoft submitted evidence and documents during their trial which may have put into the spotlight previously unknown gaming industry information that wasn’t previously accessible.
Game Rant reports that one of these documents may confirm that PlayStation 5 Slim exists and will release very soon; specifically, one line in an official document reads as follows. Specifically: “PlayStation sells an inexpensive Digital Edition at $399.99; they plan to introduce their PlayStation 5 Slim later this year at an equivalent reduced price point.”
Rumors swirling of a PS5 Slim with detachable disc drive have circulated since early 2019. According to industry expert Tom Henderson, its release could come around September 2023; so perhaps its official name should be PS5 Slim instead? In that event, its cost may equal that of regular Digital Edition console.
At this stage, Sony has not provided an official response to reports regarding detachable disc drives or addressed claims in that document regarding PS5 Slim; however, according to evidence available it seems an announcement could soon follow so stay tuned!
