Call of Duty 2024 is set during the Gulf War, according to sources close to its production.
After two decades, Call of Duty games have become one of the more prolific annual releases, often becoming as predictable as an episode from an HBO television show that involves your favourite character being killed off.
However, one trend not often seen in Call of Duty games is back-to-back Modern Warfare entries. Each Modern Warfare installment usually arrives two or three years apart with another sub-titled release occurring between each Modern Warfare release – World at War, Ghosts or Vanguard titles being popular choices in that regard.
Rumors regarding a Modern Warfare theme for 2023’s Call of Duty game have been swirling for quite some time now, since Modern Warfare II, its sequel from 2019, released earlier this year. If this year’s release proves accurate, this could mark a reboot for Modern Warfare III – possibly featuring one or more villains who debuted in previous installments as returning characters!
However, those rumors relate solely to what could arrive this year; what of 2024? We still don’t have much details regarding a potential Modern Warfare III reboot; but some new information regarding Call of Duty 2024 may have emerged in recent leaks by CoD_Perseus as they suggest “it has long been established that CoD 2024 takes place during the Gulf War. Since WZM leaks,”
The Gulf War took place from 1990-1991 and saw the US work together with allies including Britain, France, Syria, Saudi Arabia and Egypt to defend Kuwait against an Iraq Invasion spearheaded by Saddam Hussein. If Call of Duty 2024 will feature this conflict it could cause another contentious entry but that wouldn’t be anything new?
Rumors and speculation should always be taken with caution until proven otherwise, though publisher Activision Blizzard may reveal some additional information on Call of Duty 2023 within weeks.
