Fan-favourite Need for Speed remake was unexpectedly announced early.
An iconic Need for Speed game from years past could soon get its own modernized edition.
Not to be confused with its 2012 counterpart, Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005) may soon receive a remake after accidentally getting confirmed earlier than planned.
Need for Speed: Most Wanted was an exceptional sequel to the immensely successful Underground series and received excellent reviews across platforms, scoring anywhere between 82.8-87.0 on Metacritic depending on its platform of release. Critics gave Most Wanted an overwhelming 9 rating overall from Metacritic; fans gave it even higher marks!
Publisher Electronic Arts’ penchant for creating Need for Speed remakes and remasters, such as Hot Pursuit’s in 2021, seems likely to continue, though Most Wanted’s appearance could signal that its development may include major overhauls as opposed to just simple updates.
Simone Bailly who played Officer Turf in Need for Speed: Most Wanted tweeted the following statement on Reddit: “Need for Speed: Most Wanted Remake is being released in 2024 – like and comment if you would like to see Cross (Dean McKenzie) hunt down most wanted players”. Apparently this tweet was swiftly deleted – as Simone refers to Sergeant Jonathan Cross.
Redditors seem divided over whether EA will implement their plan of creating a remake for Most Wanted or not; some liken it to creating another Most Wanted game while many fans question why EA seems to have overlooked Need for Speed: Underground altogether. “Why Not Underground???,” asked killakev564, while “Wrong game. Should be doing Underground 2,” exclaimed Aford92 and Gblandro were quick to point out in November “NFS Underground Completes 20 Years, not Touching Now is Huge Mistake!”.
No matter where this information has come from, all unconfirmed rumours and speculation should still be treated with suspicion until proven otherwise. That being said, should the speculation prove accurate, we could expect an official announcement within several months regarding Need for Speed: Most Wanted remake.
