Fans love the setting for Assassin’s Creed: Cold War-era spy game and they unanimously concur.

Ubisoft’s most valuable property, Assassin’s Creed is beloved among fans who’ve experienced its immersive fantasy world since 2007. Since 2007, millions have engaged with Ubisoft’s flagship assassin-themed title by living out its world and dreaming of being an assassin themselves!

At 16 years and hundreds of titles released so far, it would be understandable if some fans felt as though Assassin’s Creed’s formula had begun to tire them out.

Over the years, gaming has evolved significantly – from pure stealth assassinations, through open world shenanigans with RPG influences, back into stealth with the imminent launch of Assassin’s Creed Mirage.

As soon as Assassin’s Creed Mirage releases later this year, its sequels — mobile game Assassin’s Creed Jade and Feudal Japan-set Assassin’s Creed Red — should follow. Fans are hopeful Bayek from Origins might feature in his second game; whether or not that actually comes to fruition remains to be seen.

Fans have also requested a Cold War-era spy game as their dream Assassin’s Creed entry – we agree! Agoodsir042, an Agoodsir42 member on Reddit opened up discussion by proposing, “Imagine an Assassin’s Creed set in Berlin during the Cold War!” Upon which many others joined him to initiate this debate.

Last month while visiting Germany and Berlin, all they could think about was how incredible an RTS game set during Cold War Berlin would be. “To give some idea as to my vision for such a title: try envisioning an action game similar to classic AC titles with elements taken from Splinter Cell and Watch Dogs Legion games.”

“The setting for their struggle between assassins and templars could hardly have been more ideal. Templars tend to favor control-seeking East German (USSR) policies while assassins would try sneak people across to freedom in Western nations.”

YoBoBaLow was delighted by this idea: “That sounds fantastic. I would absolutely adore this; I am completely fascinated with the Cold War!” YourSkatingHobbit concurred, calling this the greatest idea they’d heard since hearing of Berlin itself: it could include Warsaw, Moscow Kyiv London. Alongside these cities could feature unique yet atmospheric architecture of all sorts during that era.”

An Assassin’s Creed game set during the Cold War would certainly present an engaging prospect, and as some users in this thread pointed out, we experienced spy espionage first-hand during our WWI section of Syndicate. Additionally, Ubisoft often reuses assets, so some inspiration might also come from Splinter Cell and Watch Dogs games.

Ubisoft provided us with the spinoff Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: Russia in 2016, set during the early 1900s. If they run out of ideas later, perhaps this could become part of Ubisoft’s strategy? For now though, Assassin’s Creed Mirage releases on 12 October 2023 for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
