Steam users receiving full refunds without questions for controversial videogame.
Bulkhead Interactive announced Thursday it is offering full refunds to any who supported Battalion 1944 after years of controversy surrounding this MMO FPS title.
Battalion 1944 was an impressive idea in theory: set during World War II and designed to capture the nostalgic feel of old-school multiplayer shooters while featuring modern graphics on modern platforms, Battalion 1944’s Kickstarter launch proved massively popular: 10,096 backers pledged PS317,281. It made history on that platform too! It eventually raised over half its goal amount.
While more than enough funding was raised for Battalion: Legacy’s development, things did not proceed smoothly from there on out. According to PC Gamer’s reporting, though early access was released for PC in 2018 (before receiving full release in 2019) PS4 and Xbox One releases never materialised and were officially cancelled last year; as PC Gamer notes however re-releasing was free-to-play until 2022 and Kickstarter updates stopped altogether in January of 2018 until now – when update posts resumed again!
Bulkhead Interactive released a video explaining that anyone who supported its game on Kickstarter is eligible for a full refund: “Today we would like to announce that all Kickstarter backers – regardless of platform, pledge tier or amount spent – are eligible to receive full refunds,” game director Joe Brammer explained in the statement. He further extended this apology saying they flew too close to the sun with too many ambitious attempts that couldn’t be sustained at once.
Kickstarter backers have recently received surveys they must respond to within 30 days; after this deadline has passed, refunds will be distributed directly back into PayPal accounts of backers who took part. Be sure to check your inbox if this process hasn’t already started for yourself!
