Predictions for Final Fantasy XIV’s New 7.0 Jobs

Just weeks after Final Fantasy XIV’s Endwalker release, fans began making predictions regarding potential jobs. Alongside its debut of Sage as well as Reaper — two classes never before seen — speculation quickly started regarding potential employment options for them both. This opened the floodgates for future employment options to exist within Final Fantasy XIV itself and fans quickly speculated upon possible jobs they may apply for in its sequel, Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker.

Square Enix typically adds two or more jobs with each expansion:

Heavensward added a tank, physical ranged DPS and healer. Stormblood added melee DPS as well as magical ranged DPS while Shadowbringers introduced another physical ranged DPS tank and healer to join its ranks.
Endwalker introduced melee DPS and healer classes, in line with previous expansions’ trends of at least adding one DPS class and occasionally one or two support specialists, before swapping back out with DPS classes as required for optimal gameplay. Given Reaper now offers limited class choices to ranged players compared to melee classes, perhaps we might see even two DPS types added?

Potential Lore Candidate: Geomancer Whilst most mentions of Geomancer exist within Astrologian quests, its inclusion seems almost inevitable at some point in FFXIV lore. Stormblood section Astro log quests shared several plot points related to Geomancer; one storyline even mentioned them being his counterpart; whilst Astro reaches towards stars for healing powers while Geomancer harnesses earth energy directly – while Astro’s strength stems from cosmic energies alone.

If this sounds too similar to White Mage or too dissimilar from Astro, this could explain why Geomancer hasn’t been added yet. Though their lore already exists, this job might only ever appear near Yanxia and Doma and that time may have passed for adding them as damage-over-time classes plenty of players are seeking out.

Blue Mage can be easily dismissed if desired; players aren’t required to queue into duties the same as other classes and usually require greater coordination to achieve group content with this class. With The Masked Carnival coming soon though, their niche class might see more things to do than before! Even so, it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility that Blue Mage sees another similar limited job class added!

Endwalker introduced Reaper as the latest class, leaving Scouting gear as the sole specific Ninja gear type in-game. All other gear types suit multiple classes and stats; with Reaper being in Maiming category. When Endwalker adds another DPS like Ranged DPS or Scouting DPS later on, possibly with both using Scouting gear; making for even lower number DPS squads!

Reaper embodies darkness. They were also unexpected additions, which may signal another one will soon follow suit. Light is something FFXIV plays around with quite often; perhaps our next class could capitalize on that concept by giving players jobs which weaponize light like Reapers do with darkness.

Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida gave an interview to We Are Vana’diel, an organization dedicated to exploring FFXI and FFXIV information, wherein he commented, “Job names can be difficult. There’s no point having jobs which look similar only in name; their gameplay experience must also match its predetermined design. With limited options for new jobs to appear within these titles already existing in these series,” Yoshida suggested creating entirely unique jobs not seen previously within them series before.

Sage has appeared in earlier Final Fantasy games, yet we may never know exactly what comes next in FFXIV. If the team opts to focus on creating classes unique to FFXIV that have never before appeared in the series – such as its newly implemented Astrologian or Dragoon classes – only one class addition may occur at first; although their reworks in patch 7.0 might make this happen.
