GTA 5 performs as expected on Nintendo Switch

Someone got Grand Theft Auto V to run on the Nintendo Switch. It went as expected.

It is no secret that Grand Theft Auto V has been one of the best-selling games ever. Recently, it surpassed 180 million sales after many years of its release. The game’s active player base is also still going strong, with GTA online and graphics and performance improvements.

After successfully playing the game on a Nintendo Switch, we were surprised by a new surprise.

Geekerwan, a YouTuber named Geekerwan, turned his Nintendo Switch into an Steam Deck. By forcing the device to run Linux-based software, several games that are not normally available for the Nintendo Switch could be played.

The results were varied as you might expect. Larger, visually more impressive games struggled to reach playable framerates. One such game was Grand Theft Auto V, which fell to pieces under Switch hardware. After adjusting the graphical settings to their highest level, it still didn’t allow gameplay to go beyond 6-8 frames per seconds. It was like playing a slide show.

This isn’t surprising as a GTA game would need to be optimised to run on the Nintendo Switch, and that isn’t something Geekerwan can do alone. Rockstar could probably do it, since other open-world, massive games, like The Witcher 3, run smoothly on the Switch.

Rockstar has no interest in Grand Theft Auto V any longer, but is still hard at work on Grand Theft Auto VI, which according to leaked information could release next year.

It’s a fact that there will not be a Nintendo Switch version of GTA V released when the game is launched.

Grand Theft Auto V can be played on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
