Acclaimed Xbox exclusive now confirmed for PS5
Indie adventure Somerville will soon arrive on Sony consoles later this month.
So far this year, Xbox exclusive games have made their way onto PlayStation. High On Life from Squanch Games was recently made available on PS4/5 shortly before its initial release date of 22 July. Scorn by Serbian studio Ebb Software will come later in 2019, after initially landing on Windows PC and Xbox in October 2022 – however there’s no set release date just yet for that one! In comparison, Somerville will hit PS4/5 on 31 August 2019.
Somerville was developed by Jumpship Studio – led by former Limbo and Inside developer Dino Patti – and released on Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on 15 November 2022. As its inaugural title from Jumpship’s debut studio title is focused around an adventure video game wherein a father becomes separated from his family during an alien invasion – featuring third person platforming puzzles as well as physical ones to overcome.
Somerville was met with mixed reviews; garnering 15 positive, 23 mixed, and two negative. On Metascore it earned 71 and received 15 positive, 23 mixed, and two negative. Of its reviews VG247 gave the game their highest mark at 100; writing that “it is deeply moving, an exceptional piece of storytelling I strongly recommend!”; Game Informer awarded 80; explaining: Despite some technical shortcomings it offers memorable experiences worth experiencing with lights dimmed and headphones up high for maximum immersiveness.” These memories outweighed any technical issues.”
PC Gamer gave it 40 out of 60 points; their review stated, despite flat direction and frustrating mechanics, Somerville is nevertheless very enjoyable and should definitely be purchased when it launches for PlayStation on 31 August.”
