Will Remnant 2 be playable on Steam Deck?
Remnant 2 will soon be playable on Steam Deck! As with its predecessor Remnant: From the Ashes, Remnant 2 again pits humanity’s remnant against deadly creatures and god-like bosses across nightmarish realms in an intense fight for survival.
No matter if you venture alone into the depths or take two friends with you in co-op mode, chances are good you want to know if Steam Deck runs it or not.
Gunfire Games recently made an update regarding Steam Deck support, confirming it will be made available once their game goes live on July 25th.
Valve currently uses four classifications to describe game compatibility with Steam Deck: verified, playable, unsupported or unknown. While each category holds various implications for Remnant 2 specifically in this instance.
Remnant 2’s Steam Deck support status has officially been established since July 2023. Gunfire Games announced on Twitter that crossplay support would become available once Remnant 2 launched for PC on 25 July.
Remnant 2 Steam Deck Support Status: Verified
The developer mentioned Remnant 2’s Steam Deck support on Discord and suggested how it can be optimized in its settings to reach peak performance as soon as possible:
“Starting from scratch at 1200×800 and increasing hub scale as needed will achieve optimal performance. Make sure settings are at low with Medium shadow settings while upping performance as much as possible – in my view this represents the ideal compromise!”
Though verified and does run, players have reported it as unstable with frames dropping and not exceeding 30FPS. Remarks made on Reddit and Steam user forums suggest it might simply have been poorly optimized or exceed system requirements too much for what can be handled on Steam Deck.
Gearbox and Gunfire Games were responsive when we inquired about its status, such as whether crossplay support will be included; unfortunately at that time they did not offer comment either way. Now that it has finally been confirmed as part of Steam deck we await crossplay’s arrival!
At launch, Remnant 2 will not be available via Xbox Game Pass and we recommend familiarising yourself with Archetypes to ensure an excellent playing experience when the game arrives on PC and consoles.
