Bethesda RPG fans who have dedicated hundreds of hours to Skyrim and Fallout 4 cannot wait for Starfield to come out.

Some gamers are killing time until September by watching June’s Starfield Direct again and again to look out for any hidden details or document its history.

Others are posting daily comments on one of the game’s trailers or getting ready to create mods for it, while one person has even begun working on something Todd Howard would approve of as an offspring!

Reddit user Bridneus shared their Starfield-inspired one-page tabletop RPG called Planetfield on the Starfield subreddit.

This RPG casts players as members of an exploratory space group known as The Zodiac and tasks them with finding four fragments from an alien artefact known as an Eldritch Apparatus while exploring space – this may sound familar?

“This game can be fully enjoyed solo (obviously).” Bridneus, better known by his handle Archmage Arispen, revealed in a comment on the post, noting: “To start out playing solo you only require pencil, some colored pencils/paint (to color planets/star) and either an actual die or something to simulate it on your device..”

While exploring and mapping out an RPG’s five planet solar system with friends, possible events include encountering creatures as big or smaller than an elephant and even getting your hands on some tasty preserves!

Playing Traveller, an early 70s sci-fi tabletop RPG published by TSR, as one of the main influences for Starfield is an ideal way to pass time while anticipating Starfield’s release later this month. Todd Howard himself listed Traveller in one of his Constellation Questions videos last year as being among them.

Starfield may get its own official licensed tabletop game at some point down the line, as has happened with Fallout. Meanwhile, Planetfield provides some entertaining alternative in the interim.
