Overwatch 2 is now officially the lowest rated game ever on Steam.
Overwatch is having an unfavorable run these days; Overwatch 2 now holds the worst rating on Steam.
Since its debut, Overwatch 2 has generated considerable controversy from fans, particularly regarding monetisation of previously free features and multiple complications that plague its development; with no attempt made at recreating the magic found within its predecessor game.
Blizzard may have once held the record as being responsible for one of Steam’s worst-rated games ever; now however they have achieved something even they could only dream about before: becoming its worst rated title ever!
Review bombing for Overwatch 2 began almost instantly upon its arrival to Steam on 10 August. Many critics were longstanding fans who’ve observed its decline over time and who want to save new gamers disappointment by sharing feedback they feel is essential for an accurate representation.
One of the biggest complaints was, of course, fans being mislead into thinking PVE would be free; only to discover later it actually costs money and must be purchased separately.
Fans had long noted their displeasure with Overwatch 2, yet Battle.Net didn’t provide an avenue for fans to express themselves; beyond Reddit forums they had few other means by which to express themselves and vent.
Pduke’s Reddit comment shows just how frustrated fans of Overwatch are: in response to news that reviews for it have been so poor, Pduke simply commented, stating “Because Overwatch 2 doesn’t exist anymore, we got overwatch 1.5 instead with its multitude of cancelled promises OW is an example of how not to manage an IP.”
Now, any good feelings associated with Overwatch 2 have passed, leaving Blizzard in an unfortunate predicament, considering its plans to release other titles on Steam in coming months. While Diablo 4 may have not received as harsh an reception as its predecessor did, its negative sentiment will likely spread as more fans grow disenchanted with it.
Can Blizzard pull Outworld 2 back from this disastrous state of affairs? Unfortunately, that seems highly unlikely.
For this game to receive positive ratings on Steam, thousands of users would need to give it positive reviews; but right now this simply isn’t happening.
