Rumored PlayStation 5-exclusive RPG actually set to make Xbox launch: says insider
Persona JRPGs have become one of the most beloved franchises of their genre and, although widely played across various platforms over time, are perhaps most associated with PlayStation.
Thanks to recent advancements, however, Persona series games can now be found across Xbox Series X|S and One platforms and that is surely good news; more people playing their favourite game no matter the platform is only good thing! SEGA’s Yakuza/Like a Dragon series was once exclusive only on PlayStation but is now readily available across Xbox as well.
Persona 6 may not yet be official but we know its development has taken many years – previous rumours suggested its release may occur as early as 2024 for PlayStation 5.
Well, these reports might not be entirely true; moreover, recent claims state that Persona 6 will arrive for Xbox Series X|S and launch simultaneously with PS5 which isn’t common practice with this series.
As reported on Reddit, this information comes directly from journalist and industry insider Nick “Shpeshal” Baker during an XboxEra Podcast episode. However, due to Persona 6 still being under development and unknown details at present there has yet to be confirmation as to if or when Xbox Game Pass might see release; although we wouldn’t advise holding out hope.
Reddit thread participants hope there is some basis to the speculation, while at the same time being wary about them.
“Given how much Microsoft has invested into SEGA recently, I don’t see SEGA releasing PlayStation-exclusives any longer – particularly Persona.” Arcanunn suggested. While one source had claimed Persona 6 would be available only on Google Stadia for now (Guilty-Independent78 was skeptical), another indicated its existence might only be available through KFConsole (Chronicpresence).
So it is wise to treat unconfirmed reports with caution until proven otherwise; but as previously alluded to, Persona 6’s release on Xbox Series X|S at the same time as PS5 and hopefully PC could only be seen as positive by fans of this franchise.
As this year winds down, Atlus and SEGA should reveal all of their exciting plans in the coming months – maybe at Gamescom? Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
