The Last Of Us director confirms he’s begun work on next game
Neil Druckmann of Naughty Dog has confirmed he’s writing and directing a new game, though we still don’t have all of the details on exactly what that game might entail – although no one’s stopping us from theorising about what this might entail!
Naughty Dog is long overdue for another game from them! Last year saw their critically-acclaimed The Last of Us Part I hit PS5, followed by its critically received PC port; and we got another original title back in 2020 when The Last of Us Part II arrived for PCs and consoles alike. Bungie reportedly voiced concerns regarding its longevity before its reveal was cancelled altogether and Naughty Dog announced this delay with teases of an exciting single player experience that may involve Druckmann himself working on something?
Recently, fans noticed Druckmann had changed his Instagram bio to read: “Writer/Director Unannounced Game”. We can interpret this change to mean either Naughty Dog is working on something fantasy related, or Druckmann is making progress on The Last of Us Part III which would make more sense given his experience on The Last of Us games and sequels.
Since Part II released, demand for Part III has exploded – becoming even more so with HBO’s recent adaptation. Both Abby and Ellie left with open stories, leaving my speculations unconfirmed but leaving me confident Druckmann would take over for Part III when its time comes – it remains to be confirmed officially though!
Naughty Dog will hopefully offer up some indication of its plans soon, with speculation mounting of an impending re-release of Part II for PS5 likely being natively supported with content updates such as DLC coming along for the ride. Soon enough, fans of The Last of Us will once more feast with plenty to look forward to!
