Final Fantasy remains one of the world’s best-loved video game franchises and keeps on expanding in popularity year-after-year.

Final Fantasy VII first debuted for PlayStation in 1997 and quickly rose to become one of the greatest and most beloved video games ever produced, earning Metacritic scores of 92 from critics and 8.9 from users alike.

Since 1997, Square Enix’s iconic Final Fantasy VII game has seen multiple ports beyond retro and modern PlayStation platforms including PC, Xbox, Nintendo Switch as well as mobile. But in 2020 we were treated to an exquisite remake built exclusively for PS4, later arriving on PC and PS5. However, Metacritic gave Final Fantasy VII Remake only average scores from critics (87) and users (81).

Rumors regarding Final Fantasy VII Remake’s arrival to Xbox have swirled for several years now, suggesting its console exclusivity would one day come to an end. Although those predictions have yet to materialise, fans remain hopeful. According to Dualshockers’ reporting, an image posted by Xbox Brazil on Twitter celebrating Father’s Day last weekend provided renewed hope of its Xbox release date being close at hand – Barret was in sight!

At first glance, this now deleted image might mean nothing and Barret might simply have posted his image with no intention to inflame speculation. That being said, Final Fantasy XIV recently arrived for Xbox, previously exclusive to PC and PlayStation, making the possibility that Final Fantasy VII Remake might finally make an appearance there very real indeed – we certainly hope so.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, part two of its remake, is currently set for release early 2024 for PlayStation 5.
