Steam users criticize “disgusting new advertising technique”
The big publishers are able to spend more money on marketing and promotion of a AAA game. We’ll also see trailers and ads on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
Since many independent game developers don’t have deep pockets, it can be difficult to spread the news about a new title. Word of mouth is the best method, but it only has a limited reach.
A user’s review for Dave The Diver received a reply that read “Hello!” This might interest you. A similar game is being made! It will be finished by the summer’s end! Visit the game’s page. Add the game you want to play on your wishlist. It will promote it! “Thank you for your patience and we apologize for any inconvenience.”
A second example was given in response to an user’s review of SnowRunner. It was exactly the same. Reddit users warned of a scam involving these Steam reviews. “It is a scam,” said 83athom. Iamyous3f added, “Those ads are scams. No one advertises like that.”
If there is a lesson here to learn, it’s that suspicious links should be avoided, particularly those you have copied and pasted. Steam should respond quickly and efficiently to make sure that its users remain as secure as possible.
