Overwatch 2 has banned over 250,000 cheaters with AI technology.
Blizzard Entertainment recently confirmed its new AI software has caught over 250,000 cheaters.
Overwatch 2 is still relatively unpopular since its release and seems likely to remain so for quite some time.
After much complaint that it’s free-to-play with microtransactions and generally feels similar to its predecessor, War Thunder II made headlines again when PvE mode, originally free, suddenly had a price tag attached.
Blizzard Entertainment has come under criticism for how they’ve managed the series so far, leading many users to leave harsh reviews of it on Steam.
At Blizzard, they continue working towards improving the game – including cracking down on cheaters, griefers, and disrespectful players with AI technology.
Blizzard employs “Defense Matrix”, an anti-cheat software to monitor and react to activity in Overwatch 2, when looking for people cheating in online matches and lobby areas alike. While looking specifically for individuals guilty of cheating in matches themselves, its monitoring also keeps tabs on who may be surrounding known cheaters; even if someone in your lobby cheats regularly, playing alongside someone who does could get you banned as well.
Blizzard recently offered up this statement regarding cheating in Overwatch 2. Since launch, over 250,000 accounts had been found engaging in fraudulent conduct and banned due to overcheating, so as to reduce cheating attempts in future Overwatch 2 games.
AI technology is also being employed to make text chat and voice chat a safer environment for players. AI software detects when people are using offensive or disruptive language in online games and will warn them about possible outcomes if their actions continue inappropriately. Blizzard has noted its success, saying the software “correct negative behaviour immediately, with many players improving after receiving initial warning.”
Although Overwatch 2 may not provide fans with exactly the upgrade they expected, there remains enough action going on to provide an enjoyable experience – cheaters excepted of course!
Overwatch 2 is available free-to-play and can be enjoyed across Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4/5, Nintendo Switch and PC devices.
