CS:GO has been temporarily taken offline.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), one of the most beloved competitive multiplayer shooters ever created, and its subsequent sequel should have been met with joy by fans of its series – yet some did not see this coming.
Counter-Strike 2, as with Overwatch 2, was made freely available for PC gamers to update to on 27 September 2023, thus cancelling out its predecessor entirely.
PC Gamer reports that one of the only official ways of accessing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is via its ancient beta build – not ideal. When searching on Steam for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive you will now be taken directly to its updated page.
Valve’s decision to pull the original CS:GO offline permanently remains to be seen, even with all of its improvements introduced with its sequel game CS:GO 2. After all, this particular title was one of Steam’s most-played games at one time.
SteamDB reports that five months ago, Counter Strike:GO reached its all-time concurrent player peak of 1,818,773. However, since releasing their free update for Counter-Strike 2 there have been over 835,034 gamers actively playing at time of writing (24 hour peak peak being 1,471,730).
No matter whether or not its sequel proves more popular than its original, it remains unfortunate that Ant-Man and van Rat have suffered the MCU Blip and have disappeared into dust – not even Ant-Man can save this classic film now sadly; though with so much content out on the internet now there are likely unofficial ways of playing CS:GO; they just may take longer.
Reportedly, an official Counter-Strike: Global Offensive skin sold for $400k of real money recently – yes really – yet developer and publisher Valve have no intentions to release console versions anytime soon.
