Marvel’s Avengers officially came offline for good on Thursday.

The Avengers have finally met their end, though not at the hands of Thanos or Kang but live-service gaming.

Marvel’s Avengers has had an uphill struggle, yet has finally met with its end as its delisting from all digital storefronts has marked the final chapter in their journey.

Playable if you already own a copy, which means both solo play or multiplayer with friends online is still an option; however, development work has come to a standstill and won’t resume anytime soon; any bugs, glitches, or performance issues currently in the game won’t be addressed further; there will no longer be DLC releases, events online and/or additional DLC content added; in short – The game’s fateful existence has officially come and gone forever.

Saddeningly, however, it was never intended for it to have an extended run; prior to release the game was intended as a live-service model that would constantly update with fresh content, heroes to play as, and missions to complete.

Though its single-player campaign was well received, its DLC was heavily criticised as more of the same; especially Spider-Man DLC for PlayStation being judged harshly due to being exclusive and underwhelming compared with Marvel’s Spider-Man DLC.

Unfortunately, Cyberpunk 2077 and No Man’s Sky didn’t experience their successful comebacks after launch due to mixed online reviews; unfortunately the post launch support wasn’t sufficient enough for it to stay profitable and maintain profitability for either game.

Fans were hoping that a sequel would learn from its mistakes and address its live service problems, yet it’s unlikely one will see light of day any time soon – though reboots from different developers remain possible.

Marvel’s Avengers is no longer sold digitally on storefronts; however, existing copies purchased for Xbox, PlayStation or PC should still work and can be played.
